“We highly recommend IPS global reporting on all issues covered in the UN SDGs. We still find it inexplicable that the focus of almost all global reports on the vital issues of WATER, remain on the planet’s 3% of freshwater, on which our current food system is totally reliant.
Yet, as our research shows in our annual Green Transition Scoreboard® “Capturing Co2 While Improving Human Nutrition and Health, 2018) reports since 2009, the 97% of the planet’s saltwater offers opportunities to expand food supplies to included all the Earth’s overlooked salt-loving plant (halophytes, e.g: quinoa, Salicornia, salt-tolerant rice,), many growing wild or cultivated in 22 countries for centuries without pesticides or fertilizers on the planet’s unused or degraded lands. These plant foods are nutritious, many contain complete proteins and their long roots are excellent at capturing ambient CO2. They and many other Nature-based capture and sequestration of CO2 are key to stabilizing our climate!
