Reseach Advisory Board. Distinguished companies in clean technology recognized at Cleantech Forum XXIII
BOSTON, September 9, 2009 – The Cleantech Group, LLC, providers of leading research, events and advisory services for the cleantech ecosystem, today named the winners of its latest Cleantech Awards in the categories of Most Promising Technology and Product Innovation in front of an audience of 600 industry influencers at Cleantech Forum XXIII Boston.
exro Technologies was presented with the award for Most Promising Technology for its Variable Input Electric Generator (VIEG), an electrical generatorintended to drive down the capital cost of renewable energy while delivering double-digit improvement to energy output. The Vancouver-based company says the patented alternate energy generator offers advancements to many renewable energy applications, including wind, tidal, wave, run of river marine power applications, and has the potential to increase the fuel efficiency of portable generators and power plants. The Most Promising Technology Award was sponsored by Babson College.
“As leaders in entrepreneurship education, we are proud to collaborate with the Cleantech Group in recognizing leading cleantech entrepreneurs and their innovations,” said Mark T. Donohue, Clean Technology Entrepreneur-in-Residence at Babson College.
Johnson Controls was awarded a Product Innovation Award, having made itself into a global leader in the production of batteries for hybrid electric vehicles. In the United States, Johnson Controls-Saft Advanced Power Solutions (JCS) was recently awarded an $8.2 million USABC contract, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, to develop lithium-ion (Li-Ion) batteries for 10- and 40-mile range plug-in hybrids (PHEVS) and is to supply Li-Ion modules for the Mercedes-Benz S-Class hybrid sedan. The car, which is to go into production in 2009, is expected to be the world’s first serial production hybrid using Li-Ion technology.
“It is with great honor that we recognize these two companies changing the way the world thinks about energy and efficiency through their contributions to the cleantech space,” said Sheeraz Haji, Managing Partner of Cleantech Group. “I look forward to meeting similar companies at the upcoming Cleantech Forums in Delhi and Beijing later this year.”
