Author of “China: The Bubble That Never Pops” (2020), Thomas Orlik, as Bloomberg’s Chief Asia Economist spent 11 years in China. This book is a breath of fresh air during a time of so much uninformed China-watching. As one who has also made professional visits in China, mostly from 1986-2005. I find Orlik’s conclusions align with my own. While Orlik doesn’t expand on his brief mention of China’s shift to renewable energy and electric vehicle companies, he also misses the new focus on greening its financial sector and metrics China promotes at the G20. We recommend the report “Decarbonizing Belt and Road (2019) as the best look at this green shift of policy.
We also recommend “The Future of Humanity: Global Civilization and China’s Rejuvenation” by Zhouying JIN of the Chinese Academy of Social Science, and a member of our global Advisory Board.
