Carbon Tax-Can We Count On You?
“We at Ethical markets support our fellow members of ASBC and have also signed on to this call for putting a price on carbon. This and removing subsidies from fossil fuels can accelerate the global shift to low-carbon, sustainable, renewably-resourced green economies for our common future. Hazel Henderson, Editor”

to act on climate change.
“I think a carbon tax is the best solution because it allows markets to do what markets do best—that is to distribute capital in a way that’s fair and that is efficient and that leads to increased productivity.” —Joe Keefe, President and CEO, Pax World Management, LLC
If there’s one thing we learned since the recent COP21 summit in Paris, it’s this: Business is ready to move on climate change.
Between all of the companies and business groups (including ASBC) attending the conference, and the market shift away from carbon-heavy fuels like coal to renewable energy sources, the question of whether the economy is ready to move to a low-carbon economy has been answered.
The question is no longer whether we will act on climate change, it’s when—and how. One way in particular is a carbon tax.
We need your help—show Congress you support a carbon tax to act on climate change.
A carbon tax is one of the most efficient ways to cut greenhouse gas emissions, send a clear market signal to transition away from carbon-heavy fuels, and help minimize climate risks that could be devastating to business. Done right, it could even help stimulate our economy by using the money for tax cuts, infrastructure spending, or other priorities.
More and more businesses—even oil companies—are including an internal price on carbon in their budgets. And more and more ASBC members have already joined our petition asking Congress to pass a nationwide carbon tax. If the business community speaks, Congress will have to listen. That’s why we hope you’ll join us, and all of the businesses and business groups that have already signed onto this key campaign.
